Sources further said that the company is planning to start exports of RE60 by mid-2012 and will first start export to Sri Lanka. The company is looking to set up assembly lines in Asian and African countries: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria and Latin America.
Bajaj Auto’s RE60 is said to have a top speed of 70 kilometres an hour with 35 kmpl in normal driving conditions.
RE60, which was unveiled earlier this month, is India’s latest ultra-low-cost car. It is a 200cc four-seater that might give competition to the Tata Nano, known as the world’s cheapest auto. Where Nano has been unsuccessful in taking off as per expectations, will RE60 make it big? Only time will tell.
