The students at Luleå University of Technology have undertaken a project to develop an environment -friendly, cross breed of three-wheeled car known as auto-rickshaw for the Indian transport market by collaborating with institutions such as TVS Motor and Gestamp HardTech.
During the process, the students involved in the project will formulate a vehicle base and components that produce power to drive the vehicle as an eco-friendly substitute to the existing auto rickshaw in India. The project will also take care of the existing flaws in the safety design such as tip over and produce it to match the Indian traffic conditions. The project is carried out from the production site of the company Gestamp HardTech located in Luleå, north of Sweden. During the initial stage of the project, the company will partake as a contact partner and is expected to support the project by manufacturing and supplying a press hardening tool needed for the prototype production of the vehicle platform. The students involved in the project may travel to India to understand the prevailing traffic conditions in the country.
The other collaborators of the project include LTU centre of excellence CASTT, which is engaged in research with the support of automotive testing industry and TVS Motor and other organizations from the automotive industry in India.
