Brazil Government to Regulate Raw Milk Cheeses

Producers of Minas cheese met with the Ministry of Agriculture last week to discuss legislation around the production of cheese made from unpasteurised milk.

Two action points have been reached. One is to regulate production and marketing of traditional cheese and the second objective relates to different aspects of cheese production.

Farmers have called for a simplification of legislation. Clovis Serafini, Department of Products of Animal Origin has stated that the ministry supports cheeses made from raw milk because they comply with herd health, hygiene criteria and manufacturing facilities.
